Angelina Jolie will star in Oscar-nominated director Pablo Larraín’s subsequent film, a biopic about well-known opera singer Maria Callas.
Titled “Maria,” the movie “tells the tumultuous, lovely, and tragic story of the lifetime of the world’s biggest opera singer, relived and re-imagined throughout her last days in 1970’s Paris,” in line with its logline.
“Having the possibility to mix my two most deep and private passions, cinema and opera, has been a long-awaited dream,” Larraín stated. “To do that with Angelina, a supremely courageous and curious artist, is an interesting alternative. A real reward.”
The movie is written by Steven Knight (“Spencer,” “Peaky Blinders,” “Jap Guarantees”) and produced by Juan de Dios Larraín for Fabula Footage, Lorenzo Mieli for The Condo Footage, a Fremantle Firm, and Jonas Dornbach for Komlizen Movie.
