A Bridgeport musician with diabetes spoke with Information 12 about his life and wrestle with the illness throughout Nationwide Diabetes Consciousness Month.

Tom Applegate, 71, was positioned into foster care at a younger age. Later in life, he turned a social employee.

“I used to be a social employee who did house visits, and I had Bridgeport shoppers,” he stated.

Applegate says lots of these shoppers had diabetes themselves. Through the years, he made a behavior of pointing them to the Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention’s Nationwide Diabetes Prevention Program.

“It’s best to actually benefit from it, if you happen to haven’t already,” he stated.

The skilled musician hopes to encourage others by relatable and optimistic messages in his artwork.
