D’Angelo and Jazmine Sullivan have joined Audible’s Phrases + Music roster, every artist internet hosting a musical narrative entries.
D’Angelo will spotlight his neo-soul contemporaries in a brand new sequence courtesy of podcast firm Audible. The 4-time Grammy winner will host a currently-untitled entry of the Phrases + Music sequence, with a separate entry titled The Artwork of Confessing from R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan.
Diving into his personal musical journey, with nods to contributions from Erykah Badu, India. Arie, Lauryn Hill, Bilal, and Jill Scott, D’Angelo will highlighjt “the music of the Nineties and 2000s [as] a part of an everlasting golden braid of soul, one which existed earlier than, one which exists now, one thing that defies branding or rebranding—all the time a product of the previous, all the time rooted within the current, all the time projecting into the long run.”
For the episode, the Richmond, Virginia native will use 5 devices – organ, piano, Fender Rhodes, electrical guitar, and drum machine – to “inform a distinct story, make a definite level, and conjure new spirits,” in response to the official descriptor.
It added, “Generally these tales will probably be private, generally metaphysical, generally musical. Generally it’s about [his] music, and generally it’s in regards to the artwork type itself, constructing to a musical crescendo and an unprecedented understanding of each the music and the person.”
Co-created with journalist and creator Clover Hope, Sullivan’s The Artwork of Confessing will premiere on Friday, February 3, centering the singer-songwriter’s roots and connectedness to the numerous views of Black girls. The entry will even function Sullivan’s dwell efficiency set recorded on the World Café in Philadelphia, the place she recorded “Lions, Tigers & Bears,” “Let It Burn,” “Lady Like Me,” “Masterpiece (Mona Lisa),” and the Grammy-winning tune “Choose up Your Emotions.”
