Jan 10 (Reuters) – The Kremlin stated on Tuesday that Ukraine and the West had reacted “cynically” to a 36-hour ceasefire proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin to mark Orthodox Christmas.
“We met with a cynical response from Kyiv and a variety of Western leaders,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov instructed reporters in a day by day briefing.
Russia says the truce was introduced for humanitarian functions in order that Orthodox Christians might rejoice Christmas, however Ukraine says Russian troops shelled dozens of positions and settlements alongside the entrance line on Saturday, when the truce was meant to be in impact.
