IFC Movies has revealed the official trailer for The Misplaced King, the upcoming comedy drama starring Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins as a lady who will get obsessive about trying to find the long-lost grave of King Richard III. The movie had its world premiere on the 2022 Toronto Worldwide Movie Competition. It can arrive in theaters on March 24.
The Misplaced King is directed by Stephen Frears from a screenplay written by Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, primarily based on real-life story of Philippa Langley’s discovery of King Richard III’s stays beneath a parking lot. It’s produced by Coogan, Christine Langan, and Dan Winch.
The movie stars Sally Hawkins (The Form of Water), Steve Coogan (The Journey movies), Harry Lloyd (Sport of Thrones), Mark Addy (Sport of Thrones), Lee Ingleby (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), James Fleet (4 Weddings and a Funeral), Bruce Fummey, and Amanda Abbington (Sherlock).
“In 2012, having been misplaced for over 500 years, the stays of King Richard III have been found beneath a parking lot in Leicester,” reads the synopsis. “The search had been orchestrated by an newbie historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting analysis had been met with incomprehension by her family and friends and with skepticism by specialists and teachers. The Misplaced King is the life-affirming true story of a lady who refused to be ignored and who took on the nation’s most outstanding historians, forcing them to assume once more about probably the most controversial kings in England’s historical past.”
