The Minnesota Vikings hired general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah prior to the 2022 NFL Draft. Despite only having three months on the job, the results from that draft are likely to be what defines him in the minds of many.
The top pick in that class safety Lewis Cine was selected at 32nd overall and that came after a controversial trade down from 12th overall with the Detroit Lions. They selected wide receiver Jameson Williams at that spot and his success has been far from certain.
The first two picks of the 2022 NFL Draft could be in danger of getting cut in Cine and cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. The Star Tribune’s Andrew Krammer used the phrase “light bulb not going on” on Access Vikings when discussing their progress.
“The phrase that I’ve heard behind the scenes is the light bulb not going on with [Cine and Booth] specifically,” said Kramer. “So how do you interpret that when you’re not sitting in the room next to them as they’re studying these things? … So yeah, the light bulb is just not going on, and it didn’t go on last year.”
This isn’t what you want to hear concerning these two. Cine and Booth both had injuries in their rookie year. Pair that with the scheme change that they weren’t selected to play in and it made a little bit of sense why they weren’t utilized much in 2023.
If they continue to struggle going into 2024, that could signal the end of their Vikings careers.
