It’s fun Friday and time for another Connections puzzle. Today’s puzzle has a few red herrings and a category with no clear connection at first glance. This can make it fairly challenging to complete the Connections puzzle today, but fortunately we are here with all the tricks and spoilers if you want them.
If you want to continue with fun Friday, think about trying another NYT browser-game called Letter Boxed. Letter Boxed asks you to find new words by connecting strings of letters together around a box. The trick is, the word must be at least three letters long and the letters cannot come from the same side of the box the last letter was on. It’s a fun challenge for anyone who likes to make words.

WRITING ASSIGNMENTS
ARTICLE
ESSAY
PAPER
REPORTS
This category was the easiest of the bunch today, although PAPER was a bit of a red herring as ERASER and PENCIL are also in later categories. This made it a little challenging but noticing that ESSAY and REPORT were also present made us reconsider PAPER for this category and once we did ARTICLE made sense to belong here as well.
Green Answers: Revealed & Explained
THINGS THAT ARE PINK
BUBBLE GUM
CARNATION
ERASER
FLAMINGO
This one was hard without knowing what the groupings were. ERASER made so much sense with either PENCIL or PAPER and did not end up grouped with either! Everything in this category is also very different, apart from their coloring, so it was a bit harder to think about the colors when trying to assemble the words for this category.

NATO PHONETIC ALPHABET
FOXTROT
HOTEL
VICTOR
YANKEE
Those who have had to use the phonetic alphabet extensively will be at a strong advantage for this puzzle. FOXTROT also being a dance threw us off a little, but once HOTEL and YANKEE were correctly identified it was a lot easier and VICTOR was the only thing that did not belong elsewhere. YANKEE also was a bit of a red herring because of someone in the next category.
Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained
ASSOCIATED WITH #2
DEPUTY
DEREK JETER
PENCIL
SILVER MEDAL
DEREK JETER is the red herring here, as YANKEE could also be strongly associated with him. However, we suspect baseball fans would likely have a better knowledge of his association with #2 as well. PENCIL also made this category tricky for being close to ERASER and PAPER. SILVER MEDAL and DEPUTY made a lot of sense together, but the other words being the only ones left is what solved this category for us.
