Dave Portnoy is opening up about a recent health scare.
In a new video posted on X on Wednesday (June 19), the 47-year-old Barstool Sports founder revealed that he was recently diagnosed with skin cancer.
“I did have cancer. I beat it,” the Dave captioned the video, in which he talks to coworker Rico Bosco about the situation. “It wasn’t the serious kind thank god. I can’t tell if Bosco thinks cancer is funny or not.”
Keep reading to find out more…In the video, Dave – who has a bandage on his neck covering 10 stitches – explained, “I don’t make a big show of this. I’ve got a scar going all the way down my neck. I look like Frankenstein…I’m gonna make it.”
On his BFFs podcast, Dave went into more details about his diagnosis, which he attributed to not wearing the proper sun protection.
“It’s tough to complain. I lay in the sun. It was a mole,” Dave explained. I’m starting to get on top of myself, so I went to a doctor and did a skin thing. They scraped it, and one of them came back cancerous.”
Dave, who was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer, now views the health scare as a testament to his strength.
“It’s not scary—I mean it is, but it’s not,” Dave said. “I add it to my list. I’ve had a heart attack, cancer and stung by bees—beat it all.”
Another star also recently had a minor battle with skin cancer.
