Former Detroit Lions QB named MVP for 2024 UFL season

With the 2024 United Football League season about to come to a close after the title game takes place this weekend, the league has named its Most Valuable Player — and it just so happens to be a former Detroit Lions quarterback.

The league announced that Birmingham Stallions signal-caller Adrian Martinez has been named the MVP of the 2024 campaign. Martinez not only finished third in the league in passing yards (1,749), but his 528 rushing yards was also tops among all players.

He finished No. 2 in total offense (2,277 yards) and added 18 total touchdowns (15 passing, three rushing), tied for the most in the league. Martinez’s four touchdown passes in Week 6 is a UFL record, as was his five total touchdowns in Week 8.

The Kansas State product was the only UFL quarterback to post two 300-yard passing games, including a 369-yard performance that was the highest single-game mark all season.

Martinez was also responsible for one of only seven 100-yard games on the ground, with his 138 rushing yards in Week 5 being the second-highest single-game total during the 2024 campaign.

Martinez, who was signed by the Lions last year before being waived in August, is set to lead his Stallions in the UFL Championship Game on Sunday, June 16, against the San Antonio Brahmas.
