Five months after a writers shakeup at General Hospital, Patrick Mulcahey has exited the head writing team that consisted of himself and Elizabeth Korte.
The drama has bounced from the screen to behind the scenes. The duo replaced co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor in January. Korte is expected to remain Head Writer with O’Connor returning as her new partner.
Fans have expressed their frustration on Twitter/X about the musical chairs game in the General Hospital writer’s room. Some think Mulcahey’s exit is a rash decision, coming before any real change can be made by his partnership with Korte.
Others are excited about the change. Fans feel that many of the residents of Port Charles have been acting out of character in recent months. Seemingly the work of Mulcahey and Korte, fans think the change was to carry out a soft reboot of the soap.

The timeline is muddy on which team conceived storylines, and how to move forward to get things back on track. A source spoke to Soap Opera Digest revealing, “There will be more news to share at a later date as to the composition of the new writing team.”
Mulcahey began working on soaps in 1996. The longtime writer’s credits include The Bold and the Beautiful, Guiding Light, and Santa Barbara.
According to Deadline, Mulcahey’s episodes will continue to air through the middle of summer. At that point, the new team’s work will be represented on the series.
