Pro golfer Grayson Murray has passed away at the young age of 30.

The two-time PGA Tour winner died on Saturday morning (May 25), one day after it was announced that he was withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The death was confirmed by the PGA Tour and Grayson‘s management team.

PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement, “We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words. The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

The statement continued, “I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

A cause of death is not known at this time.

Grayson‘s management team told ESPN, “We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details, but our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time.”

ESPN reports that illness was cited as the reason behind Grayson‘s withdrawal from the tournament.
