Gypsy Rose Blanchard Learned The ‘Simplest’ Things At 32

Gypsy Rose Blanchard spent most of her early adulthood behind bars, as she was serving a 10-year sentence for her involvement in her mother’s murder.

After being released on parole in December 2023, Gypsy is now trying to navigate everyday life, including the “simplest” things, such as cooking and riding a bike at the age of 32.

The plan came after Gypsy’s mom, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard, had convinced everyone that Gypsy was severely ill and disabled when, in fact, she was not, meaning she is believed to be a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

She was 25 when she was sentenced and was not released until after she turned 32, meaning there are many “firsts” Gypsy is beginning to learn.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard Is Now Learning How To Navigate Everyday Life

The Blast had previously reported that Gypsy Rose Blanchard stepped on the sand for the first time earlier this year when filming her upcoming docuseries, “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up.” Now, she has revealed she never learned other things a 32-year-old should know how to do, such as how to cook or drive, until she was released on parole.

“You’ll see in the show that I don’t know how to cook. I don’t know how to drive. There are so many things that someone of my age should know how to do, and I’m not back from that,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “So I’m just learning that at 32 years old. Even the simplest of stuff was new to me and a challenge. So it’s kind of like, ‘OK, how do you use the laptop? How do you do this?'”

With so many things to see and do now that she is adjusting to her everyday life, Gypsy Rose Blanchard says that getting her driver’s license is at the top of her bucket list.

“I am actively working on trying to get my driver’s license,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I took one driver’s ed class, and then I didn’t go back because I was too overwhelmed. There was a lot to learn. I’m like, I don’t even know the anatomy of a car, and you’re giving me the breakdown of what not to do. So that’s something that I’m actively working on.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Next Chapter

Her “new chapter” includes a “new look, a new me, new style, new everything.”

“So I think that showing people and taking them on that journey with me was important for me because you get little bits and pieces of what my life has been like in the last five months from articles online, TikTok videos, social media, little bits here and there,” she explained. “But no one gets to actually be in the room with me except for my family.”

The ex-convict added why she decided to have Lifetime tell her story post-prison.

“Having the cameras follow me basically on a daily basis shows the events that people were hearing about all this time, but they don’t know what all was said. This definitely brings the viewers along in a very intimate way,” she said of the project. “And for me that was important to show, no, this is who I am.”

“It was very important to me [to do the second docuseries] because when we were working on ‘Prison Confessions,’ I had been so open and honest and raw about what prison life was like for me,” she further explained. “And so I was sitting in my jail cell at the end of December, and I was like, I’m so tired of all these prison labels and all these labels that people put on me, and I want to show that I’m more than that.”

“Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up” will air on Lifetime on June 3.
