What Did Dee Dee Blanchard Claim Her Daughter Have?

Gypsy was still a baby when Dee Dee first claimed she had sleep apnea. By the time Gypsy was 8 years old, Dee Dee insisted she had leukemia and muscular dystrophy, requiring the use of a wheelchair and a feeding tube. Over the years, Dee Dee added seizures, asthma, and hearing and visual impairments to the list of medical issues she alleged her daughter had.

After finding out the truth and realizing she didn’t actually need the treatments, such as a feeding tube or a wheelchair, Gypsy felt the only way out was to kill her mom — a plan that she and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, carried out in 2015.

She was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was released on parole in December 2023 after serving 85% of her sentence. Godejohn remains in prison and is serving life without the eligibility of parole.
