Sean Murray, Michael Weatherly, and Cote de Pablo have an NCIS reunion for the first time in 10 years. Playing Tim McGee, Tony DiNozzo, and Ziva David, they are widely regarded as Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ best NCIS team. They were also the longest-serving core team thus far in the show, becoming a squad after Kate Todd died in the season 2 finale. Only Tony was part of NCIS’ inaugural Major Case Response Team (MCRT), but it didn’t take long until McGee and David endeared themselves to the procedural’s avid viewers.
A decade since they were all last together, Murray, Weatherly, and de Pablo have all come together to talk about their individual and collective time on NCIS through the Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch podcast. Both Tony and Ziva have come back to NCIS since their respective departures. Ziva teamed up with Gibbs and resurfaced following her presumed death, while Tony came back for Ducky’s tribute episode in NCIS season 21. Both of them have been reunited with McGee, but separately. The trio hasn’t shared the screen since Ziva left, and this particular podcast outing is a reminder of how great they are together. Somehow, their off-screen dynamic is similar to their characters. Indirectly, it also raises questions about McGee’s eventual reunion with his old teammates.

benefit to bring in some familiar characters to the project to entice more viewers, especially since it won’t be broadcasting on CBS like the rest of the franchise.
The question now is whether there are plans to make this into reality. There are actually a couple of avenues to do this, with the first being bringing back both Ziva and Tony to MCRT in the flagship series. NCIS season 22 is already confirmed, and it could work as a launching pad for the couple’s spinoff. That leads to the second option, which is for McGee to join his old buddies in their NCIS: Tony & Ziva adventures. He doesn’t need to be a series regular, but he can provide help for them as they go on the run across Europe.
Overall, the decision will rest upon the writers behind both NCIS and its upcoming spinoff. As previously mentioned, it shouldn’t be difficult to stage the trio’s reunion in the franchise. It may even be for NCIS: Tony & Ziva’s benefit to bring in some familiar characters to the project to entice more viewers, especially since it won’t be broadcasting on CBS like the rest of the franchise. As a long-running police procedural, NCIS is used to a rotating cast. Granted that some departures are more difficult than others, everyone that CBS has brought into the show made their impact one way or another. It’s one of the main reasons why NCIS has maintained its popularity over the years, even after Mark Harmon’s departure as Gibbs in season 19. Out of all the cast combinations, however, there’s something about McGee, Tony, and Ziva that made them particularly special.
It does help that they were the longest-serving core group that NCIS has seen. The trio was there for some of the most intense cases that the show has ever seen. They endured death, destruction, and even personal tragedies. Baked into it were their collective and separate dynamics with each other. Each one was brought up and became the agent that they were because of Gibbs. Outside of work, he also became a surrogate father, especially since all three of them had complicated relationships with their biological ones. All of those stories were explored during their time on NCIS.
How McGee, Tony, & Ziva Can Reunite With Gibbs
Gibbs Is Currently Retired In Alaska
McGee, Tony, and Ziva’s potential reunion on screen is great, but seeing them back with Gibbs would be even better. While the door continues to be open for Harmon to return to the flagship series, there are currently no concrete plans to do this. In any case, that may be for the better, considering that NCIS is still trying to firmly establish its current team roster with Alden Parker at the helm. This means that any kind of reunion with their boss will have to happen in NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
Though the Paramount+ spinoff will be largely set in Europe, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Tony and Ziva, possibly with McGee, could find themselves in Naktok Bay, Alaska. It won’t be just a courtesy call, however. Since they see Gibbs as their quasi-dad, they may be there to get some help or advice regarding the situation. Regardless of the specifics, this can stage the best NCIS reunion of all time.
