Philadelphia Police announce enforcement phase of Kensington cleanup

It has been just over a month since the city made its first efforts to clean up the Kensington section of the city. Now, the Philadelphia Police Department has announced that they will be moving into phase two of the five-phase plan to clean up Kensington. Police are calling this phase the “enforcement” phase. In this phase, police will focus on addressing quality-of-life crimes as well as cracking down on open-air drug activity. In addition, the police plan to target any potential drug dealers in the community. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel announced that the department would deploy 70+ officers to the Kensington area as soon as next week. PHL17’s Tyrone Sharper gives a live report from Philadelphia police headquarters.
