The Boys
despite her being very different from her character.

a clown
” out of Firecracker.
Firecracker’s role in
The Boys
season 4 reveals her as a dangerous villain with personal vendettas.

The Boysactor Valorie Curry explains why, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, sheenjoys playing the homophobic Firecracker. Introduced inThe Boys season 4, Firecracker is a new member of the Seven specifically chosen by Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) because of the prejudiced views she presents through her ultra-conservative platform. Unlike the character she plays, Curry identifies as a lesbian and initially came out as pansexual on Instagram during National Coming Out Day in 2019.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Curry shared that despite the obvious differences between herself and Firecracker, she was still drawn to playing the character, saying that “It sounds so gross to say, but I really connected with her right off the bat.” Curry explains that one of the reasons she’s drawn to playing a character who is “so vocally anti-trans and homophobic” is because “it should be somebody from the community who’s getting to make a clown out of her. So there isn’t any ambiguity.”

Why Firecracker Is Dangerous In The Boys Season 4

Firecracker Is Brought In To Incite Violence

Despite her limited superpowers, Firecracker has already proved to be a dangerous foe, largely because of her prejudiced views and the platform she’s gained from it. As Homelander (Antony Starr) and Sage’s sinister plan gradually unfolds, The Boys are kept occupied by Firecracker’s offensive and harmful actions, including her revealing through Starlight’s (Erin Moriarty) private medical records that she had an abortion, along with getting her followers to believe that children are being trafficked through the Starlight House, a non-profit organization that helps homeless and at-risk youth.

Firecracker’s words and her actions not only make her a threat to The Boys, but to those who haven’t chosen to partake in the fight against Homelander and Vought International. This includes the youth at the Starlight House who had to evacuate due to Firecracker riling up her base. Sage tells Homelander the masses need to turn on each other before he swoops in to save the day, and Firecracker is the key to inciting violence and prejudice that leads to widespread tension and chaos.

Firecracker is also revealed to have a personal vendetta against Starlight, who spread a malicious lie about Firecracker when they were younger during their Supe pageant days. What Starlight did was wrong, but it’s also wrong to use it as justification for weaponized bigotry, along with her attacks against Starlight and those she’s trying to help. Curry’s portrayal makes it entirely unambiguous that Firecracker is a villain and that the views she espouses in The Boys season 4 are immoral.
