A Florida man was charged with robbery after trying to withdraw one cent from a bank.
The suspect, 41-year-old Michael Fleming, entered a Chase Bank location on June 29 at approximately 2 p.m. and filled out a withdrawal slip for the amount of one cent, per an arrest report obtained by PEOPLE.
Police say Fleming handed the slip to the bank teller and was told that his request could not be fulfilled.
Per the arrest report, he told the bank employee in response, “So you want me to say the other word?”
The teller feared that the situation would turn violent and called police. Fleming was still inside of the building when police arrived.
Later, police say that Fleming said he first went to a nearby Citizens First Bank, but it was closed.
The arrest report states that in a recorded interview, the suspect allegedly told police that he intended to get arrested.
“Most of the time, the way tellers are trained if someone comes in to rob you, you give them the money and let them go,” the suspect allegedly said.
Fleming claimed that he was expecting the teller to give him the one cent, after which he would sit in the chair and wait for the police, according to the arrest report.
Furthermore, the arrest report states that Fleming does not have a bank account with Chase Bank. It is unclear what bank account information he provided on the deposit slip.

Fleming was charged with one count of robbery with no firearm or weapon.
The suspect was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center; he’s currently in jail on $5,000 bond.
The arrest report states that he has “no prior guilty convictions for robbery.”
It’s not clear if he has retained an attorney.
