49ers vs. Seahawks final score, results: San Francisco takes full control of NFC West with Thanksgiving win

As the traditional Lions and Cowboys games wrap up, make sure you leave room for another serving.

The NFL’s Thanksgiving slate will close with a crucial divisional battle between the 49ers and Seahawks, as Seattle tries to bounce back from a disappointing loss to the Rams.

The Seahawks were one of the NFL’s best stories last season, but they couldn’t get over the hump against the rival 49ers. San Francisco swept the season series and dispatched Seattle again in the playoffs, completing a rare trifecta. Do the Seahawks stand any chance of knocking off Kyle Shanahan’s squad in 2023?

The status of Geno Smith might be the biggest storyline entering Thursday night, as he’s dealing with an elbow injury but is expected to start. Smith’s effectiveness will be worth monitoring, as backup Drew Lock looked like a noticeable downgrade in Smith’s place during last week’s loss.

Even if Smith is at his best, the Seahawks’ defense will face a massive test against the 49ers’ weapons. Christian McCaffrey remains the NFL’s leading rusher, while Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle both have two 100-yard performances in their last three games. A young Seattle secondary can’t afford any growing pains in a game that likely will decide whether the Seahawks have any hope of winning the NFC West.

Final: 49ers 31, Seahawks 13

11:20 p.m. — That’ll do it! The 49ers pull away after the Seahawks try to make it a game in the third quarter, and San Francisco now has complete control of the NFC West.

11:18 p.m. — Purdy hits Ray-Ray McCloud for a 23-yard gain, and the 49ers will be able to kneel this out.

11:16 p.m. — The 49ers will come out of the two-minute warning looking to just run out the clock on this victory.

11:12 p.m. — Seattle can’t convert on 3rd & 1 or 4th & 1 despite never throwing the ball. It’s safe to say the 49ers’ defense has settled back in. The 49ers get the ball back up by 18 with 4:14 remaining.

11:09 p.m. — The Seahawks are riding Charbonnet into 49ers territory on this last-ditch effort.

11:07 p.m. — 3rd & 16 turns into a first down on a 16-yard catch by Fant.

11:06 p.m. — Smith takes his sixth sack of the night as this 49ers pass-rush continues to feast.

49ers 31, Seahawks 13

11:03 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — After four consecutive runs, Purdy goes over the middle to Brandon Aiyuk for the dagger. That’s only Aiyuk’s second catch of the night, but it’s a big one as the 49ers extend their lead to 18.

11:00 p.m. — McCaffrey is up to 114 rushing yards as the 49ers try to run the clock and ice this game.

10:55 p.m. — Smith gets destroyed on third down, with Arik Armstead and Nick Bosa taking him down for a massive 11-yard loss. Getting rid of the ball hasn’t been a strength for Smith tonight.

10:54 p.m. — Charbonnet runs for a first down but gets called for an illegal shift on the very next play.

10:52 p.m. — The 49ers lined up to go for it, but a false start erased any possibility of that and forced a punt. The Seahawks will start at their own 13 looking for points.

End of third quarter: 49ers 24, Seahawks 13

10:47 p.m. — Quandre Diggs makes a huge tackle to prevent McCaffrey from picking up the first down, and the 49ers will think about what to do on 4th & 3 between quarters.

10:45 p.m. — McCaffrey runs for a first down and hits the 100-yard rushing mark tonight. He’s 72 yards shy of a 1,000-yard season.

10:43 p.m. — Deebo Samuel takes off for 15 yards to give the 49ers their first 1st down of the half.

49ers 24, Seahawks 13

10:40 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Myers connects on the short-range field goal to trim the lead to 11. The end of that drive is absolutely a win for the 49ers, who nearly saw this become a one-possession game.

10:39 p.m. — Smith finds no open receivers on third down and gets sacked. The Seahawks will have to settle for a field goal as the 49ers maintain their two-possession lead.

10:37 p.m. — Smith takes off and runs for a first down to set up 1st & goal.

10:36 p.m. — Charvarius Ward requires an injury timeout but is able to walk off the field under his own power. As long as he’s off the field, the 49ers’ secondary has a major hole.

10:33 p.m. — A relentless run by Charbonnet gives the Seahawks a first down at the edge of field goal range. Seattle wants more than a field goal.

10:29 p.m. — A truly RIDICULOUS catch by Jaxon Smith-Njigba keeps the drive alive for the Seahawks. What a grab.

10:25 p.m. — Purdy throws across the field on third down, and it falls incomplete. The 49ers wanted a flag and didn’t get one. Seattle’s offense will have a chance to cut into this lead a little bit further.

10:22 p.m. — The crowd is pleased after the 49ers’ next drive begins with a false start.

49ers 24, Seahawks 10

10:18 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Jordyn Brooks delivers for the Seahawks with a pick-six! Brock Purdy threw two dangerous passes on that drive; the first was deflected and fell to the ground, the second was tipped into the arms of Brooks. Seattle has a pulse.

JORDYN BROOKS PICK-6! @Seahawks back in it.

10:13 p.m. — Nick Bosa comes in and sacks Smith on third down, pushing Seattle right out of field goal range. A promising drive ends in a punt.

10:11 p.m. — Charbonnet picks up a first down, but Charvarius Ward breaks up an end zone shot to Metcalf on the next play. The Seahawks are still looking for that breakthrough play.

10:10 p.m. — The Seahawks found a bit of a rhythm in the passing game at the end of the first half and pick things up with a sizable completion on a pass from Smith to Will Dissly.

End of first half: 49ers 24, Seahawks 3

9:52 p.m. — That was a very well-executed drive by the Seahawks, one that makes you wonder why they didn’t try going up-tempo earlier, but Myers misses a 53-yard field goal attempt. A scuffle ensues after the play, but no one is ejected and no penalties will take effect until the second half kickoff.

9:50 p.m. — Seattle is up to about midfield with nine seconds left and a timeout.

9:47 p.m. — The broadcast says Drew Lock was warming up before the drive, but it’s Smith out there for the final 34 seconds of the half. He starts things off with a completion to Metcalf.

49ers 24, Seahawks 3

9:45 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The ‘Niners try to draw Seattle offsides and then settle for the field goal. Jake Moody makes it a 21-point game.

9:42 p.m. — The Seahawks’ overworked defense manages to force a 4th & 2. Let’s see what San Francisco does.

9:39 p.m. FUMBLE — Disaster for the Seahawks. DeeJay Dallas can’t hold onto the punt, and the 49ers jump all over it. Dallas tried to pick it back up instead of just landing on it. San Francisco can turn this into a total rout before halftime.

Everything @49ers in the first half!

9:35 p.m. — The Seahawks’ defense continues to do a fine job despite being on the field constantly, this time forcing a three-and-out and giving the offense one more chance before the half.

9:29 p.m. — Javon Hargrave blows up another disappointing Seahawks drive with a sack. Seattle has just 15 yards (-3 passing yards) and is being outgained by 200.

49ers 21, Seahawks 3

9:24 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — McCaffrey scores on an outstanding run! He might be building an MVP case. That’s his second touchdown of the night, and it puts the 49ers up 21-3.

9:20 p.m. — Purdy hits Kittle for a crucial conversion on 3rd & 9. The 49ers should at least get a field goal out of this opportunity.

9:16 p.m. — Just like that, the Seahawks are punting from deep in their own territory. Seattle is being out-gained 157-19.

9:14 p.m. — Smith throws a bomb to D.K. Metcalf, but Metcalf is unable to get both feet in bounds. That would’ve been a game-changing play.

9:11 p.m. — The Seahawks’ defense finishes the drive with a sack of Purdy and forces a punt. Seattle has prevented this from turning into a total blowout, but the offense needs to show something soon to stay in this game.

9:08 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Smith’s first pass of the drive is picked off by Ambry Thomas along the sideline. The Seahawks’ offense has nothing working right now, and just like that the 49ers are set up again.

49ers 14, Seahawks 3

9:03 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Another game, another McCaffrey touchdown. The 49ers jump out to a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter, and McCaffrey has 78 scrimmage yards on the night.

CMC now has at least one TD in 10 of 11 games this season.

9:01 p.m. — Tre Brown gifts the 49ers a first down with an illegal contact penalty. Seattle just about forced a field goal before the call.

End of first quarter: 49ers 7, Seahawks 3

8:58 p.m. — A heads-up play by Purdy, who was nearly sacked but somehow shuffled the ball to Kittle and turned it into positive yardage. A key 3rd & 7 is coming up for the Seahawks’ defense.

8:54 p.m. — McCaffrey instantly has the ‘Niners in field goal range with a 16-yard run.

8:53 p.m. — Sure enough, the 49ers will start in Seattle territory after forcing a Seahawks punt out the end zone.

8:51 p.m. — Geno Smith trips over Zach Charbonnet’s foot and barely avoids a safety by about a yard. The 49ers could get strong field position with a stop here.

8:47 p.m. — The Seahawks’ defense rises up and forces a punt by burying McCaffrey for a six-yard loss. Seattle backed the ‘Niners all the way out of field goal range.

8:44 p.m. — A holding penalty backs up the 49ers to 1st & 18 as they drive down the field.

8:40 p.m. — It’s Deebo Samuel’s night. He already scored the touchdown, and now he goes for more than 20 yards on back-to-back plays. Samuel has 56 receiving yards on the night.

49ers 7, Seahawks 3

8:36 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The Seahawks’ offense goes nowhere, but Eskridge’s return was enough to put Seattle in Jason Myers’ range. The Seahawks are on the board.

8:34 p.m. — D’Wayne Eskridge with a terrific kick return to instantly put the Seahawks well into 49ers territory. He was one broken tackle away from a house call.

8:26 p.m. — 3rd & 1 is no problem for McCaffrey, who runs for a first down with some extra yardage.

8:24 p.m. — Right away, Christian McCaffrey takes a Purdy pass for a first down.

8:22 p.m. — The 49ers will open the night with the ball. Kyle Shanahan has been known to script his opening drives well, so this is a chance for an early San Francisco statement.

8:15 p.m. — A win tonight would vault the Seahawks into first in the NFC West, at least for now. Seattle would temporarily hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the 49ers.

8:02 p.m. — Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle have both put together some huge performances lately. Can the Seahawks slow down both? Few defenses have.

7:55 p.m. — The 49ers are donning their throwback uniforms tonight.

7:40 p.m. — It’s 45 degrees in Seattle, so players will be dealing with chilly but not frigid temperatures.

7:20 p.m. — The 49ers went just 3-17 against the Seahawks over a stretch from 2012-2021, but they swept the season series least season and defeated Seattle in the playoffs. Geno Smith still has much to prove against this San Francisco defense.

7:05 p.m. — No surprises on the 49ers’ inactive list, though San Francisco will have one notable absence tonight after safety Talanoa Hufanga suffered a torn ACL last week.
