MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala earned a pair of wins to kick off her W40 Petange campaign in Luxembourg on Wednesday (Manila time).

The 18-year-old Filipino opened her singles campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Angelina Wirges of Germany.

Eala advanced to the round of 16 against Johanne Christine Svendsen of Denmark on Friday midnight.

Eala also opened the doubles event on a winning note as she and her partner, Turkiye’s Zeynep Sonmez took down the pair of Bosnian Anita Wagner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbian Katarina Kozarov, 6-2, 6-1.

The Filipino-Turkish tandem barged into the quarterfinals.

Eala reached the semifinals in her previous singles stint two weeks ago in France, where she had a first-round exit in the doubles.

The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate is eyeing her fifth International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles crown.
