HANGZHOU, China—Amaya Cojuangco progressed to the quarterfinal after hurdling her two assignments in women’s archery compound on Monday in the 19th Asian Games.

Cojuangco edged Yi-Hsuan Chen in a round of 16 shoot-off after forcing a 144 deadlock in the fifth and final frame at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre Qualification Field to move closer to the medal round.

The two-time Southeast Asian Games champion earlier opened her campaign by defeating Hong Kong’s Cheng Hung Ting, 145-140, in the 15-arrow, 50-meter contest.

She will face India’s Aditi Gopichand Swami on Tuesday in the quarterfinals where a victory for Cojuangco leads to another sure bronze for Team Philippines.

Meanwhile, Paul Marton Dela Cruz bowed out in the men’s compound after South Korea’s Jaewon Yang missed only one bullseye to prevail, 149-142, in their round of 16 encounter.

Andrea Lucia Robles followed Dela Cruz to an early exodus after Vietnam’s Thi Hai Chau Nguyen pulled off a 145-136 triumph in the women’s individual compound.

Recurve archers Jason Emmanuel Feliciano, Jonathan Reaport and siblings Pia Bidaure and Gabrielle Bidaure failed to get past the initial stages of their events.
