Australian Open qualifying 2024: Dates, schedule, players, entry lists

Emma Raducanu and Dominic Thiem headline the entry lists for Australian Open qualifying in 2024.

Both players narrowly missed out on the main draw cut-off and will need to navigate through three rounds of qualification to earn their spot at Melbourne Park.

They join several other notable players returning to injury, along with plenty of young guns pushing for their maiden Grand Slam tournament berth.

When does Australian Open qualifying start? Dates, schedule for 2024

The 2024 qualifying tournament for the Australian Open will take place over four days.

It will begin on Monday, January 8 and wrap up on Thursday, January 11.

As usual, players will have to progress through three rounds of qualification to earn entry into the main draw.

Raducanu’s protected ranking of 103 was five spots shy of automatic entry into the Australian Open women’s singles main draw, while Thiem missed out on the men’s draw by just one position with his No. 98 ranking.

Other major names in the women’s qualifying entry list include 37-year-old veteran Hsieh Su-wei, 2022 Australian Open quarter-finalist Alizé Cornet, Swiss star Jil Teichmann and experienced Estonian Kaia Kanepi.

The men’s entry list features plucky Frenchman Quentin Halys, former world No. 7 David Goffin, the consistent Diego Schwartzman and top-ranked Moldovan player Radu Albot.

There will be plenty of homegrown talent competing in qualifying, too.

Notable Australians in the women’s draw include doubles world No.1 Storm Hunter, the in-form Arina Rodionova and Daria Saville, who is returning after a long injury stint.

The men’s contingent will be headlined by the retiring John Millman, who is joined by reigning Australian Open doubles champion Jason Kubler and the rising Li Tu.

Fans will also need to keep their eyes on some potential future stars.

Australian Open 2023 junior girls’ champion Alina Korneeva will be in action in the women’s draw, along with Linda Fruhvirtova’s teenage sister Brenda Fruhvirtova.

Novak Djokovic’s mentee Hamad Medjedovic will be one to watch in the men’s draw.

When is Australian Open 2024?

Australian Open 2024 will commence on Sunday, January 14 and become a 15-day event for the first time, finishing on Sunday, January 28.
