Below Deck season 11’s current Bosun Ben Willoughby was promoted after Captain Kerry Titheradge fired Jared Woodin, but he’s defending himself against what he feels are unfounded claims from the new Captain. Ben, who first appeared on Below Deck season 10 as a Deckhand aboard the St. David, has been working hard to put himself in the best possible position aboard the ship this charter season. After Jared was fired for the plethora of mistakes he made in the early charters, Ben was promoted from Lead Deckhand to Bosun, and Captain Kerry shared he had faith in the fellow Australian.

Ben reacted to claims made by Captain Kerry in a recent interview, where the Captain shared that the former Deckhand wasn’t his first pick to take the job and teased that Ben may not make it through the entirety of Below Deck season 11. “In my defence, I have released a statement in response to an article published on Entertainment Weekly in the last 24 hours regarding my work ethic and character,” Ben captioned the post, where he shared his feelings on the comments.

“It is very unfortunate that Captain Kerry decided to speak out regarding my role as Bosun on the current season of Below Deck,” Ben explained. “With all due respect to Captain Kerry, I’m disappointed that he appears to be insinuating a false claim on my work ethic and career, which could gravely damage my reputation and character that I have worked hard in and grown in for 5+ years now.” Ben was hurt by the allegations that he may not make it to the end of the season and that Captain Kerry would feed into the drama.

Sunny Marquis Accuses Below Deck Of Giving Ben A Bad Edit

Ben’s boatmance of the season, fellow Deckhand Marie “Sunny” Marquis, shared her take on the comments and supported Ben in his irritation. “You’re an amazing bosun and friend. People who don’t know you can say what they want but will never know the true you and he’s awesome,” Sunny commented on his Instagram post. While both feel that Below Deck is editing the show to look a lot different than what went down in real-time, Ben & Sunny supporting one another in navigating the way they’re being spoken about online. After a tough charger season, the crew is supporting one another.

Ben’s time on Below Deck season 11 isn’t his first time working aboard the St. David’s charter, his role has been maximized throughout the season he’s been a part of the series. After last season’s run as a Deckhand, Ben proved himself as an indispensable part of the Below Deck yacht crew. When Jared Woodin began his time as Bosun early on in Below Deck season 11, Ben recognized quickly that he was making very basic mistakes that could prove to be dangerous for the entire crew.
