Double tap. Need we say more? If we had to, it would be that it may not be a surefire upgrade for anyone who already has an 8, but for folks with older Apple Watch models this is a pretty decent upgrade, and after being officially on store shelves for less than a week, it already has a small discount. If you can only be persuaded by bigger markdowns, we recommend waiting until Prime Day 2 in just a week to see if the latest in Apple’s lineup gets a more significant price cut.

Why we like it
For anyone upgrading from a model older than the Series 7, or getting their very first Apple Watch, the Series 8 is a solid pick with most fitness features you could want, as well as fertility tracking and crash detection — and it’s down to its lowest price ever. It may not come in pink like the Series 9, but feature-wise you’re not getting a vastly different experience (though we do wish the Series 8 had double tap). At $225, it’s less than the SE at its full price and at the lowest price we’ve seen this watch by over $50 — just make sure you sign up for a free Target Circle membership to get the discount.

Why we like it
Honestly, this watch is just $6 cheaper than the Series 8 at the time of writing, so we recommend that in most cases, you spring for that one. However, if you actually prefer not to have any extra fitness features that you know you won’t be using (like an ECG app or blood oxygen sensor), you can save a few extra bucks by opting for the SE with this Target Circle deal (membership is totally free, and easy to sign up for).
