Bryan Cranston is responding to the rumors that he wasn’t the first choice for Walter White in Breaking Bad.
Rumors have swirled over the years that both John Cusack and Matthew Broderick were offered the role before him. John has already denied that he turned down the role and now Bryan is offering up new info about Matthew.
While Matthew was considered for the role, he never was given an official offer, but the role could have went to him if Bryan wasn’t available.

“We shot the pilot of Breaking Bad in February and March of 2007. Had Malcolm in the Middle gone an eighth season, we wouldn’t be sitting here right now, or you’d be sitting here, but you’d be talking to Matthew Broderick or someone else who played Walter White instead of me,” Bryan said on SiriusXM’s “This Life of Mine with James Corden” podcast.
Bryan added, “He was being considered, but it came to me because of the fact Vince Gilligan said, ‘No, he’s the guy,’ and they thought, Sony and AMC, were skeptical and they were thinking… That’s the one you want to be the evil kind of, ooh, no, and he goes, ‘Trust me. This is what they do and that’s what you need.’ I needed a champion in my corner.”
