It didn’t take long before Tomb Raider made the jump to other forms of media, and a feature film was produced in 2001 starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. A successful sequel followed in 2003, but Jolie’s departure from the role put the big-screen franchise on ice for over a decade. Finally, in 2018, Tomb Raider premiered as a reboot of the series and swapped Jolie for Alicia Vikander. A planned sequel to the 2018 film fell through, and the Tomb Raider film and TV franchise sat dormant until the announcement of an upcoming TV series that will exist in a shared universe with Amazon’s new film.

The Tomb Raider TV Show Is Confirmed

Besides confirming that the Tomb Raider show was definitely happening, Amazon got even more ambitious when they announced a larger Tomb Raider universe. The Tomb Raider TV Show Production Status

No release date has been set for the Tomb Raider TV series, and it likely won’t have one for a while. Despite being announced in early 2023, the lack of any considerable updates proves the project isn’t that far along. Though Megan McDonnell has been added to the writing team, that only serves to suggest that Tomb Raider is still in the very early stages of pre-production and won’t move into the next phase for some time.

The Tomb Raider TV Show Cast

Amazon has revealed no casting information about the new show, but more information will likely come once the role of Lara Croft is cast. While no cast members can be definitively predicted, it is safe to say that Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander won’t be in the running to play the famous archaeologist.

The Tomb Raider TV Show Story Details

Even though no plot has been released for the Tomb Raider TV series, viewers can expect plenty of pulse-pounding action. Croft is known for wielding her dual pistols, and she will likely face dangers that stretch far beyond the pitfalls and booby traps of a few dusty old tombs. Also, with Waller-Bridge involved, a fair amount of humor can be expected in the Tomb Raider TV show.
