It seems like Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 will see the return of the revival’s most controversial character. FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit continues its stint on Paramount+ with the lingering mysteries left in its debut year. Criminal Minds: Evolution has maintained its core cast, with Emily Prentiss’ team all surviving the dangerous Sicarius serial killer network mystery. However, work continues for the profilers as they dig into the mystery of the so-called Gold Star, which was started by Elias Voit.

Ahead of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2’s premiere, however, Ryan-James Hatanaka seems to already be teasing his return as Tyler Green in season 3. Check out his Instagram post below:

Hatanaka shares a photo of him leaving his trailer after production wrapped for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. Interestingly, however, he writes in the caption that he is saying goodbye to it “for now,” essentially suggesting that he will be back. It’s worth noting that Paramount+ has yet to renew Criminal Minds: Evolution for season 3.

Will Tyler Green Permanently Join The BAU?

Prentiss Needs New People In Her Team.

Ahead of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 filming, it was confirmed that Hatanaka will return as Green for the police procedural’s sophomore year. That said, he will not just come back as a recurring star, he will have an expanded role as a series regular. Subsequently, it was revealed that Green’s involvement will be through the BAU, as Prentiss’ team recruits him to be a consultant as they delve deeper into the mystery of Gold Star. Not everyone is thrilled to see Green again, however, considering her complicated ties to Voit and more complex affair with Penelope Garcia.

Much of his role in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is still tightly under wraps, but his potential return for season 3 suggests that he may have a permanent role in Prentiss’ team. Unless the mystery of Gold Star will continue beyond season 2, there’s really no other reason for Green to come back for another year. Beyond that, being a BAU member is the only remaining explanation for Hatanaka’s continued appearance. If he proves to be useful in the squad’s current mystery, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that this happens.

Criminal Minds: Evolution introduced a controversial new character, and in the upcoming season 2, they’re going to bring more chaos to the BAU.

In any case, the BAU is already severely undermanned, which would explain why Prentiss would be open to taking Green as a full-time member. No word yet on when Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons will return, and Derek Morgan’s comeback in Criminal Minds: Evolution is once again a pipe dream after Shemar Moore’s SWAT update. At this point, the profilers may have no choice but to bring in new faces to help with their cases.
