How To Defeat The Chimera (Phantom Liberty DLC)

A fully mechanized war robot bristling with heavy weapons, the Chimera is the first major boss players will face in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Unlike many previous bosses in the game which were often bullet sponges, facing the Chimera requires some special tactics. This includes targeting its weak points and keeping an eye out for its deadly special attacks.

V encounters the Chimera after entering Dogtown for the first time and rescuing NUSA President Rosalind Myers from a crash site. With assistance from the President’s netrunning assistant Songbird, both V and Myers must try to evade the hostile forces of local warlord Kurt Hansen. However, although Songbird manages to use the Chimera to wipe out Hansen’s troops, she soon loses control, forcing V to battle the hostile robot.

How To Defeat The Chimera Boss In Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (First Stage)

In the first stage of the boss fight, the Chimera’s armor is highly resistant to damage, even if you’ve managed to pick up some of Phantom Liberty’s new weapons early on. To bring its health down, V must scan the Chimera to highlight its weak points. All of these have to be destroyed in order to trigger the second stage of the boss fight. Hitting the weak points can be tough, as the robot constantly moves and rotates its turrets to target V and President Myers.

The best approach here is to keep moving around the room, using the corridor that runs all the way around the central pit where the Chimera is located. At this range, it can’t hit V by slamming its chassis into the ground to create a shockwave or release clouds of poison gas. However, it will still fire swarms of missiles and use a gun turret and railgun to shoot at V, so it’s important to keep moving and shooting.

Some of Phantom Liberty’s new perks, including new Relic Perks are fantastic for this fight. Vulnerability Analytics in particular highlights Vulnerable weak spots which V can target to do extra damage.

It will also fire a big laser beam in a circle around the room. It’s highly recommended that players duck behind cover instead of trying to outrun it. It’s generally advisable to ignore the Chimera’s health bar for now, and focus on destroying weak points.

Players can also deal damage to the Chimera with quickhacks, which are surprisingly effective at dealing damage over time.

How To Defeat The Chimera Boss In Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (Second Stage)

After all of its weak points are destroyed, the Chimera will hunker down and launch a swarm of hostile drones. This includes two repair drones, which will attempt to fix the robot. The Chimera will start to recover health quickly, so you should take down the repair drones as soon as they spawn. Other hostile drones will try to attack V, but they don’t deal much damage, so they’re less of a priority.

Once the drones are destroyed, the boss fight becomes much more standard. The Chimera is more easily damaged by your weapons, but it also appears to get more aggressive with its attacks. Focus on what your V’s build does best, as it’s highly recommended that you take it down as quickly as possible. If you do get close, try and dodge away if the Chimera starts to slam its body into the ground, as this deals heavy damage and knocks V down.

Characters with at least 8 Body Stat can rip off and use heavy weapons stored in the corners of the room in the corridor.

After the Chimera’s health gets low enough, V gets the opportunity to jump on top of the robot and execute a smooth finisher to kill it once and for all. Make sure to pick up the active Chimera Core that drops before continuing your journey in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
