The semi-finals wrapped up yesterday, and tonight, on May 30, at 8:00 p.m. ET, the finals will commence. Eight rounds of the Scripps Spelling Bee have been completed thus far with eight hopefuls advancing to the final round. Frontrunners are Shrey Parikh from San Bernardino, California whose last word was “alstonine,” Aditi Muthukumar from Denver, Colorado who spelled “myrmecoxene,” and Kristen Santos from Houston, Texas who was given “scire facias.” While we’re busy looking up those terms in the dictionary, these contestants, all 13 years old (or younger), are advancing to the finals after spelling these complex words correctly.
