Kristen Stewart Defends Wearing Jockstrap On Rolling Stone Cover

Kristen Stewart has expressed satisfaction with her provocative Rolling Stone photoshoot, noting that the response to her wearing a jockstrap made her feel “really happy.”

She talked about the “female body” and how showing any kind of “sexuality” that is not for the male gaze makes people “not super comfy.”

The Oscar-nominated actress recently advocated for the need to move beyond solely queer cinema, emphasizing authentic storytelling over marginalized identities.

Speaking at a news conference during the Berlinale International Film Festival, “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart revealed that she is happy with the response to her recent photoshoot.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the 33-year-old actress, who was promoting her new film “Love Lies Bleeding” at the film festival, acknowledged the impact of the steamy layout, saying: “The existence of a female body thrusting any type of sexuality at you that’s not designed for exclusively straight males is something people are not super comfy with and so I’m really happy with it.”

In the Rolling Stone photoshoot, Stewart showed off her bold style, donning a jock strap and basketball shorts against the backdrop of an old weight room.

Sharing insight into her approach to the photo shoot, the Los Angeles native said that she “loved the opportunity” to be the main subject of it.

“It’s okay to take different pictures and mix them up in a way that people aren’t used to and want to go, and that’s okay, too,” she added. “In fact, it’s pervasive, and it’s everywhere, and it’s being denied, and it’s crazy that there aren’t more pictures like that.”

During the news conference, Stewart, who identifies as bisexual, spoke on the evolving landscape of queer cinema, stating, “The era of queer films, being so pointedly only that, is over – it’s done. Maybe they’ll happen, but I think things develop and move on. It’s just so inherent to how we’re all moving forward.”

She emphasized the importance of portraying authentic human experiences rather than solely focusing on marginalized identities, adding: “‘It’s not making [movies] about the reasons that they’re sidelined, but peoples’ actual experiences, what they love, what their desires are, where they come from, where they want to go and, yeah, not feeling like you always have to stand on a f—– soapbox and be everyone’s spokesperson.”

Advocating for LGBTQ+ narratives to be integrated into mainstream cinema to propel progress, Stewart concluded: “We can’t keep doing that thing where we tell everyone how to feel, and where we sort of pat each other on the back and receive brownie points for providing space for marginalized voices, and only in the capacity that they are allowed to speak about that alone.”

Stewart also provided an update on her ongoing biopic project centered around the late author Susan Sontag.

She described the project as “a hybrid documentary, research project, experiment, film-within-a-film type thing,” adding that “the format is unique” with “sort of an open-ended process.”

While the timeline for the biopic’s release remains uncertain, the “Crimes of the Future” actress revealed that work began on it last year during the festival.

In addition to her involvement in the Sontag project, Stewart is set to star in “Love Lies Bleeding,” alongside Ed Harris, Dave Franco, Anna Baryshnikov, and Jena Malone, scheduled for release in theaters on March 8.

In the crime thriller, Stewart portrays Lou, a gym manager, who embarks on a romance with Jackie, a female bodybuilder played by Katy O’Brian.

Kristen Stewart On How Donald Trump Inspired Her To Come Out As Bisexual

During her interview with Rolling Stone, Stewart revealed that her decision to address her sexuality for the first time on “Saturday Night Live” in 2017 was partly inspired by past criticism from former president Donald Trump.

Reflecting on the moment, Stewart described it as a “very shoot-from-the-hip moment.” The Oscar-nominee recounted how, during discussions with the “SNL” writers, the planned monologue felt “boring” until someone brought up Trump’s past tweets about her cheating scandal with “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson.

At the time of the scandal after paparazzi photos showed Stewart kissing director Rupert Sanders in 2012, Trump posted on X, “Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog and will do it again — just watch. He can do much better!”

Taking back the narrative during her iconic “SNL” monologue, Stewart quipped, “Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re probably really not going to like me now because I’m hosting ‘SNL’ and I’m, like, so gay, dude.”

The “Panic Room” actor also expressed her disdain for Trump’s reaction to her personal life, labeling him as a “little baby” and delivering a sharp message: “F— you, b—-!”
