NCAA: JRU adds to Letran’s woes, EAC beats Arellano

MANILA, Philippines—Jose Rizal University dealt defending champion Letran its sixth straight loss, 79-74, in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Saturday.

The Heavy Bombers recovered from their back-to-back losses to improve to a 9-6 card. 

Agem Miranda regained his first round form with 17 points and four rebounds. JL Delos Santos and Joshua Guiab added to the victory with 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

The Knights remained at the bottom of the pit with a 1-14 card. Kobe Monje finished with 18 markers, five boards and two assists in the loss. Deo Cuajao and Pao Javillonar chipped in 16 and 10 points, respectively, but to no avail.

Earlier, Emilio Aguinaldo College broke its dry spell after defeating lowly Arellano, 77-64.

Coming off a two-game losing streak, the Generals got back on track to bring their record to 8-7.

King Gurtiza led the cavalry with 23 points, six rebounds and two assists with two steals and a block to match for EAC. Erlan Umpad also helped the cause with 12 markers and six boards.

Jeadan Ongotan and Ernest Geronimo were the only double-digit scorers for the Chiefs with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Arellano crashed to 2-13.
