Neve Campbell Addresses Possible Return To ‘Scream’ Franchise

Neve Campbell is addressing her future with the ‘Scream’ franchise after the recent firing of Melissa Barrera and after Jenna Ortega‘s exit.

As you know, the horror movie franchise fired Melissa Barrera, who portrays Samantha Carpenter in the recent ‘Scream’ films, due to her stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

Shortly after the firing of Barrera, another star, Jenna Ortega, announced she would not return for the upcoming movie due to a scheduling conflict with her hit Netflix show, ‘Wednesday.’

Of course, this news comes after ‘Scream’ star Neve Campbell, who portrayed the iconic Sydney Prescott, addressed the franchise and her contract dispute.

“Sadly, I won’t be making the next ‘Scream’ film,” Campbell admitted at the time. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream’,” she continued.

The actress has been the face of the franchise since Wes Craven’s first film, which was released in 1996. Considering how many films have been made since then, Campbell said she felt she deserved more pay, but the company didn’t seem to agree. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise,” the ‘Scream’ star said of the contract dispute.

Now, however, it seems Neve Campbell is open to possibly returning — but only if the offer is right.

Neve Campbell has been keeping up with the news, as she seemed to be aware of Melissa Barrera’s firing and Jenna Ortega’s exit. “I know things are spinning at the moment, and I would imagine they are spinning at the top trying to figure out what they’re going to do. I would not be surprised to get a call,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter over the weekend.

However, ‘Scream’ fans shouldn’t get too excited quite yet, as Campbell continued, “But at the same time, I made a strong statement a few years ago, which is I did not believe that the way that I was treated would’ve happened if I had been a male and that I deserve a certain thing for having carried this franchise for as long as I have.”

When reflecting on her decision to exit the franchise due to a dispute in fair pay, Neve Campbell said, “We have to stand up for women in this business and know what we’re worth. That hasn’t changed for me. So, if they were to come back to me, it would have to be with a respectful offer that I felt was in keeping with what I bring to this franchise.”

The outlet then brought the conversation back full circle by once again asking the actress if she would return to the horror movie franchise.

“Would I do it? There are millions of fans out there of this franchise. These movies mean a lot to people. They mean a lot to me. They mean a lot to [Kevin Williamson]. They meant a lot to [Wes Craven]. They meant a lot to all of these cast members, and we would all love to see this franchise continue. I would hate to see it burn.”

The actress ended with a hopeful, “So, we’ll see.”

At this time, there is no set release date for ‘Scream 7’, but fans can expect to see the film either at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.
