Reese Witherspoon’s Son Deacon Phillippe on Making His Golden Globes Debut (Exclusive)

Reese Witherspoon had a Golden Globes mother-son date night with her eldest child, Deacon Phillippe!

The actress, 47, and her 20-year-old son stepped out together at the 2024 Golden Globes Awards on Sunday, marking their latest awards show appearance this year.

Reese and Deacon stopped to chat with ET’s Kevin Frazier on the red carpet, opening up about their respective upcoming artistic projects — as a producer of her Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, Reese was also nominated at the awards show for Best Television Series – Drama.

“He makes me really proud,” Reese said of attending the awards show with her son. “He’s a genuinely curious, intelligent young guy and we’re just so excited to get a little time to spend together.”

So, could we see Deacon on an upcoming episode of The Morning Show?

“I’m very busy with school and stuff,” the young performer said with a laugh. “However, whenever I’m home… I try to watch it as much as possible. I like watching a lot of her movies and stuff.”

While Reese has 10 Golden Globe nominations and two wins to her name — Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, for 2006’s Walk the Line and Best Miniseries or Television Film as a producer on Big Little Lies — her eldest son is forging his own path in Hollywood.

Apart from his music career, the young performer also appeared in season 3 of Never Have I Ever, earning praise from both Reese and his dad, Ryan Phillippe — though they reiterated that music is his main focus for now.

“He may dabble in acting at some point but he’s got a great album about to come out, and he’s looking at signing with a label soon,” Ryan told ET in February of last year. “So, that’s going to be his focus.”

As for Deacon’s older sister, Ava, Ryan says she’s “undecided” about acting, but adds, “You never know what’ll happen in the future.”
