In the 1980s and ‘90s, movies about kids going on adventures were commonplace. E.T., Stand by Me, The Goonies, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Sandlot, the list goes on and on. In 2024 though, movies like that are much rarer—so that a new one is coming out at all would be exciting even if it wasn’t great. Thankfully, Riddle of Fire is indeed great, and we’ve got an exclusive clip showcasing why.

Rainn Wilson’s First Fandoms: Star Trek And D&D

Written and directed by Weston Razooli, Riddle of Fire follows three friends on what, to them, seems like an epic adventure. They need to get a password so they can play a new video game system. Seems simple enough, but the task requires them to go to many, many unexpected places. It’s all told with a very fantasy-forward tone and look, as well as three actors who are as unique and interesting as you’ve ever seen. Oh, and so freaking cool. Below, io9 has an exclusive clip from the movie that admittedly is very weird without context but perfectly conveys the film’s one-of-a-kind tone.
