Swifties… are you ready for it? Taylor Swift is in her historical era as it’s been revealed the pop icon is related to American poet Emily Dickinson!

The company Ancestry, which helps people understand their genealogy by looking back at their family tree, has found evidence that Taylor is distantly related to the famed poet.

They are sixth cousins, three times removed.

“We need to calm down…but how can we when we have BIG news!?” Ancestry shared on their Instagram account. “Renowned American poets Taylor Swift and Emily Dickinson are 6th cousins, three times removed.”

“Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th century English immigrant (Swift’s 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson’s 6th great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut),” Ancestry added to their social media post.

“Taylor Swift’s ancestors remained in Connecticut for six generations until her part of the family eventually settled in northwestern Pennsylvania, where they married into the Swift family line,” the company told TODAY.

As Ancestry said, “Guess we can truly say that all’s fair in love and poetry.”

Taylor Swift’s Past Connection To Emily Dickinson

This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise to Swifties as they’ve made a connection between the singer and poet for years.

Tay Tay’s album ‘Evermore’ was announced on December 10, which is Dickinson’s birthday. Plus, the album title turned some heads as many believe it was inspired by Dickinson’s poem ‘One Sister Have I in Our House,’ which includes the word “forvermore.”

Additionally, the pop icon herself mentioned Dickinson in a past acceptance speech when she won the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International.

“If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre,” she said at the time.

Fans are anxiously awaiting her eleventh studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, which is set for release on April 19, 2024. We know there will be four versions of her latest album, with each one named after a bonus track appearing only on that variation. Swift has announced that each version of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ will include its own bonus track and will feature different cover art.

It will be interesting to see if there are any subtle references to her sixth cousin, three times removed on the upcoming album.

Taylor Swift has yet to comment on this latest revelation.
