The Dyson Airwrap finally has a diffuser attachment

It’s no secret that the Dyson Airwrap’s biggest competition is the Shark FlexStyle. For folks with curly or wavy hair, the latter has offered something the former simply could not: a diffuser. That is, until now.

That’s right — Dyson listened and finally, people with wavy, curly, and coily hair can actually use the Airwrap to dry their hair to its natural texture. As of Sept. 28, Dyson added two new attachments to its lineup: a diffuser and a large volumizing round brush. If you don’t yet own an Airwrap, they’ll come as part of the newly offered Dyson Airwrap Complete Long Diffuse, along with a wide tooth comb attachment, Coanda smoothing dryer, and firm smoothing brush, all for $599.99 — the standard Airwrap price.

For those who do already own an Airwrap, both the diffuser and large volumizing brush will be available for purchase individually starting next month for $39.99 each, according to a Dyson spokesperson.

If you’re looking at the Complete Long Diffuse and wondering what you’re missing out on from the original Complete, you won’t be getting the 1.6-inch curling wand (just the 1.2-inch), the soft smoothing brush, or the smaller round volumizing brush, each of which can also be purchased separately for $39.99.

Though the large volumizing brush isn’t quite as revolutionary as the diffuser, it is a welcome addition to a lineup that didn’t have a wider round brush that could really bring big, swooping volume.

Prior to these new attachments dropping, we already thought the Airwrap came with more attachments than a single person could feasibly use. But seeing an Airwrap made for a specific hair type with five completely unique attachments definitely makes us feel that, though it’s still by every metric a luxury purchase, it might feel like less of a splurge if you’re already regularly using some version of these styling tools and techniques.

And ICYMI: a new colorway

Dyson could’ve stopped at the new attachment drop, but they also decided to drop a special edition colorway for the Airwrap (sadly just the original at the time of writing, not the Long Diffuse) and Supersonic.

The colorway, called Ceramic Pop, does pop with its orange, pink, and turquoise hues that are a welcome deviation from the rose gold/copper/navy combos we’ve seen cropping up everywhere. The Ceramic Pop Airwrap will run you the same as the original at $599.99. The Supersonic will also cost the same as its original counterpart at $429.99.
