Tiffany Haddish Calls Arrest For Suspected DUI ‘Answered Prayers’

Tiffany Haddish is thankful for her recent run-in with law enforcement officials.

According to new reports, the comedian and actress has opened up about getting arrested for driving under the influence, calling it “answered prayers.” Haddish, who was arrested after her performance at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Thursday night, made the remarks during a subsequent comedy set.

Less than 24 hours after she landed in police custody for DUI, Haddish took the stage to deliver laughs. During her appearance at Long Beach’s Laugh Factory, the Emmy Award winner responded to an audience member’s question about the events of “last night” following her Friday morning arrest.

Even though she avoided directly addressing the alleged DUI, she successfully turned it into a punchline, making light of the situation. In nearly one-minute audio of the conversation, the “Night School” actress is heard joking about how the incident resulted in her prayers for a man in uniform getting answered.

The excuse worked on the crowd who laughed loudly as she recalled thinking, “Don’t bend over,” during the interaction. TMZ detailed that Haddish left her Long Beach performance in an SUV, appearing to have company and the complete opposite of herself earlier that day.

As The Blast previously covered, the “Girls Trip” star was placed in jail after she was found asleep at the wheel of her vehicle, with the engine running in Beverly Hills. Even though no accident occurred, an unidentified person reported the incident to the police around 5:45 am, noting that her car was stationary in the middle of Beverly Drive.

Upon reaching the location, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards recipient was handcuffed by Beverly Hills cops and transported to the police station. The actress cooperated with the arrest and is expected to be released later today, facing a DUI citation.

Before this incident, she participated in The Laugh Factory’s 43rd annual Thanksgiving feast on Thursday night in West Hollywood, a free community event. This is not Haddish’s first encounter with a DUI charge; she experienced a similar situation in January 2022 in Atlanta.

At the time, Peachtree City police had reportedly received a call about an individual found sleeping in their car. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered the 43-year-old driving into the neighborhood.

For her latest encounter, Haddish faced charges of DUI and improper stopping on the roadway. As per legal documents, she is scheduled to appear in court for this case on December 4.

The Empire Awards nominee’s police problem came after she got slammed with a $1 million defamation lawsuit by her ex-friend Trizah Morris. Morris alleged that the comedian groomed her children and involved them in sexually inappropriate skits recorded in 2014.

She mentioned that even though she was not close with co-defendant Aries Spears, her kids considered Haddish to be like family and they had affectionately dubbed her “Auntie Tiff” to signify that.

It was then made clear that Morris wanted compensation for the skits her children filmed alongside Haddish and Spears when they were still minors. She claimed that the Los Angeles native groomed her kids and had them participate in sexually inappropriate skits.

She mentioned an incident where her minor daughter simulated oral sex and a second that involved a pedophile skit with her son. In 2022, her grown-up kids dropped their lawsuit accusing both Hollywood superstars of child sexual abuse.

Haddish and Spears subsequently denied any wrongdoing and deemed the lawsuit an extortion attempt. Later, Morris’ daughter expressed her family’s support for the “Girls Like You” music video vixen, sharing:

“My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years – and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us. We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.”
