Nebraska’s journey to its first national championship since 2017 continues. First, it will go through Georgia Tech in the third round of the NCAA volleyball tournament.
The Huskers have been dominant all season, losing only one match, and they are the No. 1 team in the nation for a reason. Aside from their defensive domination on the court, Nebraska is known for having a huge home-court advantage. With 8,309 people packing Bob Devaney Sports Center for what could be their last match, it’ll be hard for the Yellow Jackets to pull off the upset. They shouldn’t be counted out, though.
Georgia Tech’s attackers will need to out-battle Nebraska’s defense, which has held opponents to a .140 hitting percentage this season, the third best in the nation. Tamara Otene and Bianca Bertolino, the Yellow Jackets’ best attackers, need to get involved early and often.
Still, it takes a lot to get past Lexi Rodriguez, the Big Ten’s defensive player of the year. The Huskers are loaded with Harper Murray and Merritt Beason at the pins, and they know how to get kills anytime from anywhere.
