Ortiz is undefeated, having finished all of his fights via knockout. The Texas-born fighter was inactive for all of 2023 due to rhabdomyolysis and the effects of a positive COVID-19 infection. A centerpiece of Golden Boy Promotions, Ortiz’s career almost got taken away from him. Now, a healthy Ortiz is ready to take on all challenges.
“It did cross my mind a few times [about not being able to compete again], and it was like, ‘Man, what am I going to do?'” Ortiz told Yahoo Sports in early 2023. “But, I wasn’t hopeless. I’d tell myself that it was just another obstacle I have to overcome in my life, and I was confident we’d figure it out somehow. I have a lot to give in this sport, and I have a lot of goals and things I want to accomplish.”
Lawson turned pro in 2011 and has won 22 fights via knockout. The Ghanaian is 3-2 in his last five fights and is on a two-fight win streak.
