The latest edition of snooker’s British Open will take place at The Centaur within Cheltenham Racecourse between September 25 and October 1, 2023.

A the third professional ranking event of the 2023/24 World Snooker Tour season, defending champion Ryan Day is aiming to become the first player in British Open history to retain the title and collect another cool top prize of £100,000.

In what is the 24th edition of the tournament (as a ranking event), a star cast is set for action in pursuit of the The Clive Everton Trophy, although recent Shanghai Masters winner and seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has withdrawn due to medical reasons.

Reigning world champion Luca Brecel starts his campaign against Ding Junhui, the man considered Asia’s greatest ever player. A stacked field on the opening day also includes Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, Mark Williams and Mark Selby.

The USA’s Ahmed Aly Elsayed — a rookie on the professional World Snooker Tour this season — is preparing for his British Open bow as he faces Scottish Open title-holder Gary Wilson in the opening round.

ITV will once again be the host television broadcaster for the British Open in the UK as the channel continues to showcase top-level snooker with a portfolio of five big events per season.

For fans in the UK, live action will be televised predominantly on ITV4 throughout the week with afternoon and evening sessions. However, due to clashes with football matches and the ongoing Rugby World Cup, several programmes will be shown on ITV3 instead.

These programmes will also be available as live and on-demand content on the digital platform ITVX.

Belgium’s reigning world champion Luca Brecel is set to compete at The Centaur in what will be his first appearance on UK soil since his memorable triumph in Sheffield back in the spring.
