Two clubs hoping to reignite their season meet at Old Trafford as Manchester United and Newcastle clash in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Man United, reeling from their dispiriting defeat in the Manchester derby at the weekend, have not made the strides fans were hoping for in Erik ten Hag’s second season. Their supporters will have expected the Dutchman to steer the club closer to their cross-town rivals, but after being hammered 3-0 at home on Sunday, there’s cause for concern that not enough progress has been made.

Newcastle are somewhat in the same boat, sitting sixth in the Premier League table and falling to a disappointing home defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week. The Magpies stormed their way to a top four place last season, and while they’ve shown flashes of last season’s spark, it’s been more of an up and down campaign so far.

Both teams, in fairness, have been bereft with injuries and other squad constraints to key players. The Carabao Cup is a great equaliser, however, and progression through to the next round past a strong opponent could be a positive result on which to build further success moving forward.

Here’s how that time translates across some of the major territories around the globe.

(Be advised, the UK has transitioned back to GMT one week before the United States hits Daylight Savings, and therefore kickoff times are slightly awry from their usual slot, as the time differences are somewhat skewed. For example, the east coast of the United States and Canada is usually five hours earlier than the UK, but for this one week they are four hours apart.)

Man United vs Newcastle projected lineups & team news

Manchester United have a long injury list to contend with, as do their counterparts in this match.

Most notably, South American stars Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez are both struggling with injuries. The Brazilian midfielder is set for a possible return in this match, having missed out the last few games after picking up an ankle injury on international duty, but Casemiro could be set to see the field in this game. His Argentine counterpart, however, will not play until the new year after an operation on his foot.

Alongside those players are long-term absentees Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka – with all three defenders out at least until the November international break. Sergio Reguilon has come off the bench in the past few matches and could be a contender to start, while Kobbie Mainoo appears to have shaken off his preseason injury, making the bench against Man City over the weekend.

Man United projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Onana (GK) — Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Reguilon — Mount, McTominay — Fernandes, Mejbrj, Garnacho — Martial.

This match begins the long 10-month ban for key Newcastle midfield acquisition Sandro Tonali who will play no further part this season or in the summer’s international tournament after triggering a gambling ban.

Eddie Howe is also without key defender Sven Botman and in-form striker Alexander Isak. The former seemed set to return soon from a knee injury, but has remained sidelined longer than expected, while the latter is out for at least through the November international break thanks to a groin problem.

Other injury absences include Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, and Elliot Anderson all of whom will miss at least the majority of November, with Anderson out until the new year thanks to a back issue. Eddie Howe may be tempted to rotate his squad in this match heavily to protect his remaining healthy first-choice players, but it’s tough to predict who will remain and who will step aside.

Newcastle projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Dubravka (GK) — Livramento, Dummett, Schar, Hall — Longstaff, Joelinton, Willock — Almiron, C. Wilson, Gordon.
