Cody Rhodes was involved in the opening segment on the latest edition of RAW. While Damian Priest and Finn Balor kicked off the show, he interrupted to confront the duo. This segment led to the confirmation of a match between Rhodes and Damian at Crown Jewel 2023.
Since the match is confirmed, many have wondered why Cody Rhodes is facing Damian Priest. While there could be many reasons, it could be because WWE did not want to repeat a tag team match involving Rhodes and Jey Uso against the Judgment Day members.
Also, booking a match between Rhodes and Damian Priest will give the babyface a win without the need to switch the championship again. These are some reasons Rhodes and Priest haven’t faced each other in a singles match. Hence, this could be the perfect opportunity for them to showcase their skills against each other.
As mentioned above, while there could be many reasons behind the same, what matters is that the match between Cody Rhodes and Damian Priest would be a treat to watch. The duo has been facing each other in tag team competition for weeks.
Cody Rhodes brutally attacked RAW
Since its inception, WWE’s Judgment Day has been known for being true to its heel nature. The faction again displayed the same during the opening of the latest edition of RAW.
After Cody Rhodes and Damian Priest agreed to face each other at Crown Jewel, the former asked Priest why they didn’t give fans a preview of what would happen at the PLE in Saudi.
While Damian seemingly agreed to the same, Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio entered to outnumber Cody Rhodes. However, that’s when Jey Uso jumped Dominik to provide Rhodes with backup. Unfortunately, Jey’s backup meant nothing as JD McDonagh interfered and helped Damian continue his attack on Rhodes near the announcer’s table.
Later, McDonagh removed a steel chair, which Damian used to hit Rhodes while the latter’s leg rested on the steel steps. This move forced officials from backstage to come out and stop the fight. Further, WWE showed backstage footage of Rhodes struggling to walk as Jey helped him.
Given Crown Jewel is near, an injury is the last thing Rhodes would want. However, given The American Nigtmare’s popularity, it’s unlikely WWE would book him to be injured and miss such an event. Hence, as the days pass, it will be interesting to see how this storyline between Rhodes and Damian plays out.
