World Gymnastics Championships live results, updates, highlights for Simone Biles in 2023 all-around finals

Simone Biles has a chance to make gymnastics history. With one more medal at the World Gymnastics Championships, she will become the most decorated gymnast of all time.

A medal is easy for a gymnast like Biles. She’s on track to claim the gold, her sixth all-around title at Worlds, which would tie the record for most titles at the competition.

She finished first in the qualifying competition and had the highest all-around score during the women’s team finals, where the US took home its record seventh straight team gold.

Though her score during team finals was about a tenth of a point lower than her qualification score, Biles notably took away difficulty in her vault routine to prioritize execution because of USA teammate Joscelyn Roberson’s injury.

This time, Biles has other gymnasts to worry about, such as Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, France’s Melanie de Jesus dos Santos and American teammate Shilese Jones.

Andrade made a huge leap between all-around qualifications and team finals, scoring half a point higher during Brazil’s historic silver-medal finish during the team finals. While it doesn’t sound like much, Andrade is about as dangerous as an opponent gets. After all, she took home the all-around gold in last year’s World Championships.

de Jesus dos Santos showed up and showed out during team finals. She scored the third-highest all-around score that was two whole points higher than her qualification score. She lacks the difficulty that Biles has but knows how to perform in crunch time.

The second American competing in all-around finals is Jones, and, man, can Shi fly. She didn’t have her best individual performance during team finals, but just like Biles, she won’t have the added stress of an injured teammate here. Jones won silver in the all-around in last year’s Worlds and stands a solid chance at medaling again.

If Biles performs how she always does, with power and consistency, then she will easily win the gold and officially be the best there ever was. But if this competition is anything like the team finals, fans can expect some drama and upsets on the podium.

World Gymnastics Championships live results, highlights from women’s all-around finals

1:51 p.m. – It’s not the Biles II, but Biles pulls off a nearly perfect vault, with only half a point deducted from the execution score. She earns a massive 15.100 to start her night.

1:48 p.m. – There’s a slight hop on the landing but it’s a beautiful start for Jones! Her vault earns scores a 14.233.

1:40 p.m. – Great Britain’s Jessica Gadirova, who won the all-around bronze medal last year, has been pulled from the competition due to precautionary measures. A disappointment for a gymnast who was a strong contender for the podium. Alice Kinsella, who took fourth in the all-around at 2022 worlds, will replace her teammate.

1:32 p.m. – And we’re off in Antwerp! Biles and Jones will both begin on vault.

12:55 p.m. – China’s Ou Yushan has withdrawn from the competition. France will now have two gymnasts represented in the finals with the addition of Morgane Osyssek-Reimer.

12:25 p.m. – Biles heads into the all-around finals with the highest-rated vault at a 6.4 difficulty. Does this mean she’s pulling out the Biles II, a Yurchenko double pike? She debuted the vault during qualifiers but did not perform it during the team finals.
