Canada look to secure qualification to the 2024 Copa America, to be held in their backyard, as they take on Jamaica in the quarterfinals of the 2023/24 CONCACAF Nations League across two legs.
Advancement to the semifinals of this competition is enough to secure a place in next summer’s massive tournament, which will prove vital for preparations to the 2026 World Cup.
Les Rouges will do so under temporary management as interim boss Mauro Biello leads the way in the aftermath of John Herdman’s departure to manage MLS club Toronto FC.
Jamaica, meanwhile, prove stiff competition as Icelandic boss Heimir Hallgrimsson led the Reggae Boyz to the semifinals of the Gold Cup this past summer. They were unbeaten through the preliminary round of the Nations League, beating Honduras, Grenada, and Haiti along the way.

Our first true update from Canada Soccer concerning tonight’s match states that kickoff has been pushed back at least an hour. The Canada Soccer social media admin just went on Instagram Live to show the conditions at Independence Park, and they are apocalyptic. The individual said on the live social media broadcast that “it’s not looking likely” the game will be played.

1 hour 30 mins to kick: Copa America qualification is on the line for both these teams across the two quarterfinal legs. Advancement to the CONCACAF Nations League semifinals is enough to book a place in next summer’s competition.
The defeated team can, however, still qualify if they win their subsequent playoff matchup with another quarterfinal loser, which takes place in March. Still, that’s a tense and difficult prospect, and both sides will with to avoid that precarious situation, as missing out on the Copa America would be a monumental disappointment for both Canada and Mexico.

2 hours to kickoff: While the Canadian federation is reeling from the departure of John Herdman, one player is happy to see change happen at the top. Central midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye had been left out of multiple squads towards the end of Herdman’s tenure, and he believes his relationship with the former Canada head coach was the reason.
