Lions vs. Cowboys odds, props, predictions: Detroit to stay hot as Dallas free falls

Get ready for one of the highest-scoring games in the NFL this season. The Lions vs. Cowboys odds opened with a 53.5-point total OVER/UNDER, and the line is currently .

If the total stays that high, it will be the largest of the season and the most since the Dolphins and Chargers had a 54.5-point total line in December of last year. Be aware that over the last two seasons, the under hits 69% of the time when totals are over 50 points.

The Detroit Lions are coming off a massive win over the Vikings last week that clinched their first Division Championship since 1993. With that goal accomplished, the Lions are still fighting for wins for playoff seeding and the number one seed in the NFC, which is still within reach for Detroit.

For Dallas, who has clinched a playoff spot, they are still in contention for the number one seed as well. They would need to win out and have Detroit, Philadelphia, and San Francisco lose out, so it is unlikely but still possible.

The Lions have been strong this season overall and as a good spread bet most weeks. Detroit is 9-6 against the spread and has covered three of their last four. Dallas shares a 9-6 ATS record but has lost two games in a row and has not covered the spread.

Saturday’s primetime game at Dallas kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET with TV coverage on ABC and ESPN. Here are the live odds, team betting news, Caesars Sportsbook player props, and a betting prediction for Lions vs. Cowboys.

Detroit Lions betting news

Detroit players, fans, and coaches are beyond excited after clinching their first NFC North Division Championship in franchise history. The last time Detroit won their division was in 1993 (NFC Central).

The Lions are not finished, with the next goal to end their postseason win drought and win a playoff game.

Detroit has only won one playoff game since 1957, which came in 1992. Detroit has had a historic season behind the strength of their elite offense. The Lions have hit the OVER total points in ten of 15 games this season. They’re coming off two straight weeks where the offense was rolling with 42 points against Denver in Week 15 and 30 in Week 16 over Minnesota.

Jared Goff is having the best season of his professional career and is currently third in passing yards (3,984) and passing touchdowns (27) in the NFL. He also boasts the highest completion rate of his career at 67.7%.

The one knock on Goff is his inconsistency at times, and when you look at the Lions’ four losses this season, three have come when Goff was at his best.

Dallas Cowboys betting news

Two weeks ago, the Cowboys were in the discussion of Super Bowl favorites, and Dak Prescott was getting some MVP talk in the media. Things can change quickly, and they have with the Cowboys losing two straight.

In their defense, Dallas was the odds underdog in their last two games, but they also did not cover the spread.

Each loss came as Dak Prescott had two of his worst games of the season. Against Buffalo two weeks ago, Prescott only threw for 134 yards and had an interception.

He was better last week against Miami with 253 yards and two touchdowns, but for the NFL leader in passing touchdowns, it was not at the level he had been throughout the season.

The Dallas passing attack has been one of the best it has ever been with Dak at quarterback, but the rushing attack has taken a big step back. There were always many critics of Ezekiel Elliot, but Dallas misses him, and it is obvious.

Dallas averaged 135.2 yards and 1.4 touchdowns on the ground last season. This season, Dallas only averages 115.2 yards and 0.8 touchdowns rushing.
