Moana 2 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future.
As of early October 2023, Disney has not officially announced the development of Moana 2. In the past decade or so, the studio has progressively veered away from making sequels and instead focused on developing live-action remakes. Although exceptions such as the Frozen and Toy Story films do exist, they don’t seem to be part of the norm. In fact, a live-action remake of Moana, in which Johnson will reprise his role as Maui, is slated to come out on June 27, 2025. Moreover, one of the several animated TV spin-offs developed by Walt Disney Animation Studios was set to come out on Disney Plus in 2023 but has been delayed until 2024.
However, this doesn’t mean that the prospect of a Moana sequel can be entirely ruled out. As Disney expands the universe with the projects mentioned above, there will always be room for cinematic animation and how it can used to continue exploring Moana’s story.
The possible voice cast for Moana 2 is Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Rachel House as Tala, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Jemaine Clement as Tamatoa, Alan Tudyk as Heihei, and more.
