Secretary of Defense Austin expresses ‘outrage and sorrow’ over the killing of 3 U.S. troops in Jordan

Speaking at a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressed “outrage and sorrow” over the deaths of three U.S. service members in a drone attack in Jordan. He said he and President Biden “will not tolerate” attacks on U.S. troops. The meeting was held on Austin’s first day back at the Pentagon after he underwent treatment for prostate cancer.

LLOYD AUSTIN: Good morning, everybody. Let me start with my outrage and sorrow for the death of three brave US troops in Jordan and for the other troops who were wounded. The president and I will not tolerate attack on US forces, and we will take all necessary actions to defend the US and our troops.

Now, at this important time, I’m glad to be back at the Pentagon. I feel good and am recovering well, but still recovering. And I appreciate all the good wishes that I’ve received thus far.
