The plot thickens as Katagiri discovers Ishida’s second killer seeking help in his home, setting the stage for the next dramatic turn in Tokyo Vice.

Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 6 titled “I Choose You” picks up directly in the aftermath of the shocking assassination attempt on Oyabun Ishida. Before the climactic finish of Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 5, the conflicts between most of the characters of Tokyo Vice’s ensemble cast were relatively tame by comparison. The return of the formidable yakuza leader Tozawa at the end of Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 3, began to tip the scales towards an impending violent showdown for control of Tokyo.

A potential team-up between the Chihara-Kai and Tozawa clans was hinted at as pressure arose from Superintendent Nagata, Hiroto Katagiri, and the Tokyo Police Force. However, the stunning death of Ishida in Tokyo Vice’s most recent episode proves that Tozawa had likely never actually planned on working with Ishida for their mutual benefit. The sixth episode of Tokyo Vice begins with a thoughtful flashback to the day Sato and Oyabun Ishida met, years before what would become their last day as Chihara-Kai allies.

11 Tozawa Voluntarily Goes In For Questioning Regarding The Hit On Ishida

Samantha Is Also Questioned & Spotted By Tozawa At The Police Station

In what is likely a premeditated move, Tozawa willingly shows up for questioning at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to the surprise of Samantha and Nagata. Tozawa offers Nagata photos of the Tozawa clan celebration he was at the previous night, claiming it to be an alibi for Ishida’s murder case. Tozawa’s preparedness and willingness to hand over his apparent photo evidence is an immediate cause for suspicion. Tozawa also spotted Samantha, who had just finished being interviewed, on his way in, pointing out that she was eerily on his radar.

10 Katagiri Visits The Chihara-Kai To Investigate Ishida’s Assassination

He makes a point to question Hayama’s motivations as well

Not long after Katagiri and Tozawa exchange threats at the Tokyo Police Station, the detective visits the Chihara-Kai to learn what they know about Ishida’s assassination. The reckless Hayama has assumed the role of Oyabun without dispute from other Chihara-Kai members, indicating that Sato has yet to vocalize Ishida’s wishes for him to become Oyabun one day. Flexing from his new throne, Hayama is unwilling to cooperate with Katagiri and dances around the subject of Ishida’s death. Katagiri demands that there be no violent retaliation on the Tozawa clan from the Chihara-Kai.

9 Samantha Tells Jake About The Red Eye Tattoo On One Of The Killer’s Wrists

It’s unclear whether Samantha also revealed this information to Nagata & the police

Jake visits Samantha to check in on her after the violent attack on Ishida on Club Polina. She is naturally shaken up for several reasons, including the fact that she is feeling guilty for Masa’s death and is terrified that Tozawa knows who she is. Samantha is helpful in describing a specific tattoo on one of the killer’s wrists which she says is a type of Daruma, which can be considered a symbol of endurance or good luck. It’s not entirely clear whether Samantha relayed this information to the police, but Jake now has an excellent lead to work from.

8 Jake Visits Ukai At An Addiction Meeting To Ask About The Tattoo

Jake suspects the former shabu addict will recognize the emblem

Jake is able to quickly think of Ukai as someone who can help him with the lead on the tattoo that Samantha gave him. Ukai was the person who told Samantha and Jake about Tozawa’s Yoshino yacht at the end of Tokyo Vice season 1. Ukai proves to be resourceful to Jake once again and does not require Jake to party and take shabu with him for information. Ukai tells Jake that he’s familiar with the two people who have those emblems who he calls the Hishinuma-kai.

7 Hayama Suspiciously Recruits Kaito To Retaliate Against Tozawa

Hayama manipulates Kaito into trying to kill Tozawa single-handedly

Hayama continues his trickery in Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 5 by continuing to enlist Kaito, Sato’s younger brother, despite Sato’s wishes. Kaito had already proven to be resourceful to Hayama through an e-commerce service earlier in the season, but Hayama has now gone too far in trying to fully recruit the impressionable Kaito as a fully-fledged member of the Chihara-Kai. In what is already a blatant abuse of his power, Hayama instructs Kaito to shoot and kill Tozawa, framing it as the only sure way to protect Sato’s life.

6 Sato Prevents Kaito From Trying To Assassinate Tozawa

Sato has his most loyal members of the Chihara-Kai Gen track Hayama, which is how he found out about Hayama meeting up with Kaito at his school. Sato acts quickly to connect the dots about what Hayama has planned for Kaito, going to his dorm room and finding Tozawa’s personal information on his computer. Sato springs into action and stops Kaito from making what would surely be the worst mistake of his life just as he is approaching Tozawa. Kaito is furious but does not understand that Hayama had set him up on a suicide mission.

5 Katagiri Interrogates Hishinuma For Information About Ishida’s Killers

Hishinuma is an imprisoned yakuza who has a history with Katagiri

Jake informs Nagata and Katagiri about the red eye tattoo and Hishinuma but refuses to give up his source to protect his systems of journalistic ethics. The information is enough to allow Katagiri to begin interrogating Hishinuma, who is a former yakuza boss that Katagiri and Nagata had imprisoned in Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 3 in one of their police raids. Katagiri explains the seriousness of the situation that they are facing with Tozawa gaining more power by the day, which inspires Hishinuma to provide a location of where the killers could be.

4 Katagiri & Nagata Find One Of Ishida’s Killers Dead

Ishida’s other killer with the red tattoo is still on the loose

Katagiri and Nagata use the location that Hishinuma gave them to find one of Ishida’s killers. When they arrive on the scene, they find the killer dead and presume that he has been murdered. The unidentified killer has an emblem tattooed on his wrist that fits the description of Samantha’s sketch, but it is noticeably not red. This indicates that the killer with the red tattoo is still on the loose and might have even had a hand in silencing the other killer. At this point, Katagiri and Nagata suspect that Tozawa is covering all his tracks.

2 Meicho Publishes A Defamatory Article About Samantha & Ishida’s Assassination

Tin Tin authored the article knowing that Samantha was Jake’s friend

Jake becomes outraged when he reads a Meicho article about Ishida’s death that paints Samantha as an associate of the yakuza and Chihara-Kai. One of Jake’s closest friends at Meihco, Tin Tin, had written the article with a potential angle to get back at Jake for setting him up to fail with the article on the Shimbashi development in Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 5. Jake nearly fights Tin Tin at the Meicho office despite his former friend’s factual reporting and is given a temporary leave of absence by Eimi, leading him to get on a plane and fly home to Missouri.

1 Katagiri Discovers Ishida’s Second Killer In His Home

The killer begs for Katagiri’s help

In a sudden twist in the final moments of Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 5, Katagiri returns home to discover that Ishida’s second killer with the red eye tattoo has broken into his home. Strangely, the killer is not armed and holds up his hands to get across that he was not there to hurt Katagiri but to ask for his help. Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 7 will likely pick up just after this wild late development as Katagiri and Nagata continue their pursuit of Tozawa while Jake returns to the United States.
